What is ESTA Kieserite? ESTA Kieserite is a natural mineral, a magnesium sulphate with the chemical formula MgSO4 · H2O, which occurs only in the K+S KALI potash and kieserite mines in Germany. It is produced by a unique production process called electrostatic separation (ESTA). As a carrier of the two elements magnesium and sulphur, ESTA Kieserite finds multiple applications as mineral fertilizer as well as a component of industrial and pharmaceutical products. Focus on agriculture This website offers not only details about the origin, properties and production of ESTA Kieserite, but also a wide range of information concerning its importance and possibilities of use in agriculture. For many years the two macro-nutrients magnesium (Mg) and sulphur (S) never received the same attention as nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) though their significance for plants, animals and humans is undisputed. Both Mg and S are required at similar levels to phosphorus for a healthy crop growth, yield and quality formation. Plants take up magnesium and sulphur from the soil where both nutrients occur in different fractions and undergo various transformations before being absorbed by the plant roots to fulfil a multitude of metabolic functions. Therefore, great emphasis is put on practical aspects such as the recognition of deficiency symptoms, the determination of application rates and the effect of Kieserite on crops.
