How to determine fertilisation rates?

Several factors should be taken into account before deciding on a fertilizer application rate.

The most important ones are:

• Yield expectation
  
  
• Nutrient uptake / removal of the crop
  
  
• Soil nutrient status, soil type, soil pH, release/mineralisation
  
  
• Contribution from other sources, e.g. organic manure, atmosphere, etc.
  
  
• Losses of nutrients by leaching, runoff, immobilisation
