Magnesium and sulphur
| Required for: |
Yield and protein formation
|
| High deficiency risk: |
Mg: |
Sandy soils, acid soils
|
| |
S: |
Soils with low OM content, poor microbial activity
|
| Deficiency symptoms: |
Mg: |
Interveinal chlorosis of flag leaf, incomplete filling of ear
|
| |
S: |
Stunted growth, yellowing of foliage, reduced N° of grains/ear
|
| Recommendations: |
50 - 60 kg Kieserite/ha as maintenance dressing depending on soil type. At low Mg soil supply (fertility class A) 1.5-2.0 times that amount should be applied. On light soils and danger of leaching losses, split application or additional foliar application is recommended. In this case 5% Bittersalz (Epsom Salt) solutions should be applied between shooting and grain filling.
