Grain crops
The grain crops cereals (wheat, barley etc.), maize and rice represent the worlds most important stable foods. World-wide are approximately 380 million ha of cereals grown, 138 million ha of maize and 154 million ha of rice, which is about half of the total arable land area.
Achieving high, sustained yields of good quality grain crops is essential in order to meet the worlds demand. Therefore, a good nutrient management, including an adequate magnesium and sulphur supply, plays a key role in the cultivation of these crops, particularly because of the influence magnesium and sulphur have on the plants vigour, yield (grain/kernel filling) and protein formation (nutritional value).
