Cassava

Magnesium and sulphur

Required for: Yield, root & tuber growth, starch production

High deficiency risk: Mg: Acid soils, high Al concentration in soil solution

S: Highly weathered soils with a low OM content and large amounts of Fe oxides
Deficiency symptoms: Mg: Interveinal chlorosis of the leaf blade

S: Chlorosis of the whole shoot, showing reduced and stunted growth

Optimal leaf concentrations Mg: 0.25-0.50%
(adequate supply) S: 0.30-0.40%
Recommendations: For yields > 40 t/ha, 140–250 kg Kieserite/ha should be applied based on removals. Soils with a poor Mg status or extremely acid soils should receive 1.5 - 2.0 times that amount.
