Roots & tubers
With a total production of 678 million tons world-wide, root and tuber crops greatly contribute to the carbohydrate supply of a large part of the population. Potato with 308 million tons, followed by cassava with 179 million tons, sweet potato with 136 million tons and yams with 39 million tons constitute the majority of the production.
Due to the essential roles magnesium and sulphur play in the yield and starch production of these crops, both nutrients have to be included in the fertilization scheme of roots & tubers.
